Don’t Worry, Be Happy

My last post about anxiety really got me doing my research and I learned a lot about the disorder. Low self esteem issues can be linked with anxiety. You might be afraid to talk to people because you are afraid of how others might see you. We’re all human and we can’t help but worry about what people think. Feeling insecure about how you look or talk can hold you back in life because it may make you less sociable and could restrain you from being yourself. So how do you build your self esteem? Well first off, you need to learn to love yourself. You can’t expect others to like you if you don’t! We’re all different and none of us are perfect. But if you can accept your own flaws, no one can use them against you.

Stop comparing yourself to others. I can’t stress the importance of this. Everyone is different and there are plenty of people out there who will love you for who you are. Maybe you can’t sing like Barbara Streisand, or you’re not as pretty as Selena Gomez, but I guarantee there is someone out there who looks at you and envies something you have, whether it be the way you look or a talent you possess. Everyone excels at something so find what that is for you. Make a list of things you did well today. It could be “I passed my math test,” or something simple like “I successfully did winged eyeliner.” Be proud of whatever it is.

Don’t let negative thoughts control your mind. Convert your negative thinking to positive thinking. Everytime you put yourself down, give yourself two compliments. Learn to accept yourself for who you are. And my most important advice; don’t let others intimidate you. No one is better than you. Not anyone. When feeling intimidated, you are most vulnerable. Even though it’s so easy to be intimidated by some people, don’t food your mind into thinking your any less than them. Have some self appreciation. Learn to love yourself so others can too.
