OOTD- Summer Concert!

Recently, I was able to attend Radio 104.5’s Birthday Show and it was awesome! I wrote about Day 2 last week here, and I have to say, I really had a great time. The weather was beautiful- hot and sunny during the day, and cool and breezy at night.

I wore a simple outfit of just a black bralette bought at Forever 21 and black high waisted shorts that are the brand Mystic. I didn’t want to accessorize too much in fear of losing something, but I did wear a simple, silver ring. Also (not pictured) I wore some knock off all black vans because I knew I would be in grass all day and I didn’t want to get any of my nice shoes muddy.

I actually did my makeup for the first time all summer, which I picked a very awful day to do this since I melted within the first hour. Still, I thought the orange and pink eyeshadows looked perfect for summer and the winged eyeliner really pulled together the look.

Overall, the look wasn’t anything crazy, but comfortable and cute for a day spent in the sun listening to all my favorite bands.

May Favorites

May is over and summer has officially begun! I’m excited to discuss my favorites for this month with all of you because I’ve got a lot. Also, I linked all of the products if you are interested in checking any of these out!

Beauty

  1. Hawaiian Topic Dark Tanning Oil– okay, I know a lot of people flip when I say I like to use tanning oil, but I think tanning oil is great when used safely. At the start of summer, I love to use a bit of tanning oil on my body and soak in the sun for about an hour or two just to start my summer tan. This tanning oil is great because I darken so fast without burning and get that summer tan in no time without spending an excessive amount of time outside baking my skin. It’s perfect to use at the start of summer.
  2. Sephora Pearl Face Mask– this face mask is great for brightening the skin. I love using the Sephora face masks in general because they aren’t too expensive and are perfect for a little spa day. They make my skin feel much cleaner and fresh.
  3. Smith’s Rosebud Salve– I talked about this in my last favorites post and I will keep talking about it because it is 100% my holy grail of lip moisturizers. My lips get so dry and I swear this is the only product that helps. Not to mention one little jar lasts a lifetime.
  4. Mally Face Defender BB Cream Foundation– I’ve been loving this BB cream because it’s so light and perfect for summer. It also is great for my acne prone skin and doesn’t clog my pores. I currently wear the color medium light, but will probably go up a shade as I get tanner.
  5. Mally Poreless Perfecion Glowing Foundation– I use this product on top of my BB cream and together makes the perfect result. This powder alone is not quite enough coverage for me, but it really ratifies my face without looking cake-y. I find it to be the perfect powder for sealing in my foundation and eliminating an oily T-zone. I wear this in light.
  6. Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer (Tiki)– I use this bronzer in the shade Tiki and it works as the perfect highlight for summer. Since it’s actually a bronzer, the shade is perfect to highlight my summer glow. It’s dark to add a bit of color, but is so illuminating that it really brightens my face. It’s also great to use as a bronze eyeshadow. Overall, it’s a very versatile product that can be used on a wide range of complexions.
  7. IT Cosmetics CC+ Radiance Palette– This palette has been perfect for adding color to my face. Honestly, I haven’t really used the powder since I’m so obsessed with my one by Mally, but I love the bronzer and the blush. The bronzer is the perfect dark shade to contour and the blush is bright and natural looking and adds the perfect flush of color. The palette is a bit pricey, but worth it.

Fashion

  1. Tee Shirts– As boring as this sounds, I’ve been enjoying wearing just plain old oversized tee shirts lately. I really like to be comfortable, especially when it’s so hot and sweaty out. Still, I think big tee shirts are extremely cute paired with some cute sneakers and high waisted shorts. Cute, casual, and comfortable. (BTW I linked a cute one for you to check out!) IMG_2803.JPG
  2. Twist-Front Crop Top– This has been one of my favorite pieces to wear lately because it is such a cute little top, and so versatile! I wear it with jeans and sneakers, or I’ll pair it with some high waisted shorts and sandals. I also love to dress it up a little by pairing it with my corduroy skirt and a denim jacket. IMG_2895.JPG
  3. Bralettes Bralettes are the best for summer because they aren’t as restricting as a regular bra and go perfect under cutoff tanks and backless tops. I might be biased since I used to work there, but my favorite place to buy bralettes is definitely Aerie. IMG_2904.JPG
  4. Sneakers– I love wearing sneakers when it’s still a bit breezy out. I also find them way more comfortable for walking on the boardwalk than flip flops because there is no toe chafing! I particularly love my Adidas, Converse, and Vans even though they’ve all gotten super run down because I wear them so often!IMG_2907.JPG
  5. Open Cardigans and Tanks– Since it’s still a little chilly some days, I like to wear loose sweaters and cardigans on top of my tank tops. Layering is perfect when the weather is still constantly fluctuating.IMG_2733.JPG

Entertainment

  1. Big Little Lies– I just started watching this show so I’m not very far in, but I’m already hooked. Also, I want to note how awesome this cast is. I definitely recommend.
  2. 13 Reasons Why Who isn’t talking about this show?? I wanted to see what all of the hype was about so I decided to check it out. I’m definitely not as obsessed with the show as some people are and I do think the show has its flaws, but it’s still an intriguing show. Plus, Clay Jenson is the cutest creature to ever walk the earth.
  3. Invisible Monsters– I started reading this before and got sidetracked with school and never was able to finish, so i started again. I was obsessed with this book from the start. Chuck Palahniuk never disappoints.
  4. Empire of the Sun– I just discussed this band in my last post because I was lucky enough to see them live, but I decided they were worth mentioning again. Swordfish Hotkiss Night is the ultimate jam.
  5. The Killers– I’m so excited because I get to see one of my favorite bands perform in a few weeks!! I’m so excited that I’ve been nonstop blasting the Killers ever since I bought the tickets (aka like 3 months ago).
  6. Poshmark– One of my favorite apps, Postmark allows me to sell clothes I no longer wear and buy clothes from others for affordable prices. I use Postmark constantly and find it a great way to earn some extra spending money. Check out my closet!
  7. Duolingo– I really want to brush up on my Italian and this app lets me practice and overall is really effective. Not to mention, it’s free!
  8. MyFitnessPal– I’ve been really trying to eat healthier and this app is one I always go back to. I’m able to keep track of what I eat and check my calories. It also breaks down the nutrition so I can see how much protein, carbs, etc. that I’ve consumed. This app also allows you to set goals. For example, you’re goal might be to lose .5 pounds each week. The app tells you how many calories and such you should consume to achieve this goal.
  9. That Poppy– I’ve been really addicted to Poppy lately and I can’t tell if I like it or not. Her music is awesome no doubt, Lowlife is a great song for the summer. Her channel; however, is a bit strange, yet I can’t stop watching?? Her vids are definitely a bit odd and I wish she were to give a meaning for it all, but I’m definitely hooked and can’t stop watching.
  10. Sarah Baska– I discovered Sarah last summer and I’ve loved her ever since. I’ve been catching up on her videos lately now that classes are done for the summer and I can’t stop watching. She’s absolutely hilarious and her videos never fail to make me laugh.

Food

  1. DIY Trail Mix– Lately, I’ve been snacking on trail mix that I create myself with whatever I have in the house. I try to keep it as healthy as possible by mixing together some cashews, dried cranberries, dark chocolate, and pretzels. It makes the perfect snack to munch on.
  2. Bananas and Peanut Butter– Bananas and peanut butter are a perfect combination and a great snack. I love eating this if I want a quick snack before bed or sometimes even for breakfast. I also like making peanut butter and banana sandwiches for lunch because basically I’m obsessed with this combination. 10/10 would recommend.

Hope you all enjoyed your month of May and found something in this article worth checking out! Everything is linked!

March Faves

March is coming to an end so I thought I’d do something I haven’t done in a long, long time- a monthly favorites post! If you guys like this post, I’ll start doing making monthly faves more often so please let me know what you think!

Here are my March faves! 🙂

Beauty:

I have three big things I want to discuss. The first is Smith’s Rosebud Salve. Inexpensive, moisturizing, and pretty much a staple for my lips. It’s still pretty cold around where I live, so everything is still very dry. My lips dry out so fast in the cold air, and I find this to be the best way to keep some moisture.

Another product I’ve been loving which I discussed in my self-tanner reviews is my Tanceuticals Self-Tanning Body Lotion. I love this because of the smell- not only does it not have that stinky self-tanner smell, but it actually smells good. Not to mention it is the perfect shade, as it’s dark, but not too dark to look fake. And it is probably the only self-tanner that doesn’t cause my acne prone skin to break out. If you’re into self-tanner, I highly recommend giving this a try.

My last product is my Maybelline New York Eyestudio Master Precise Ink Pen Eyeliner. I don’t believe in spending an excessive amount of money on eyeliner. For one thing, I could never afford it because I wear cat eyes almost daily and pens never seem to last that long. This eyeliner is inexpensive, and it’s very easy to create a sharp wing with the felt tip. It has been my Holy Grail of liquid liners.

Music

I have got to mention my latest song obsession because this song is going to be huge soon and I’m calling it now. The song is called There’s a Honey by Pale Waves and it is the catchiest, most relatable song ever and I am obsessed. I’m also seeing Pale Waves perform this summer and I cannot wait! Check out the song here! Fun fact: the song was produced by the 1975, and if you know anything about me, you know I’m obsessed with the 1975! I’ve seen them twice in concert, plus I’m seeing them again this summer. I guess it only makes sense for me to be obsessed with this song!

Others

I’ve been really into Instagram lately, not that I haven’t always enjoyed Instagram, but I feel myself becoming more and more addicted. If you’re interested, you can check out my Insta here along with other sites I’m obsessed with such as the Odyssey (my other blog), Bloglovin‘, and Poshmark.

But yeah, that pretty much sums up my monthly favorites! There aren’t too many things on my list for this month, but everything that did make the list has been my absolutely and utter obsession. If you liked this post, let me know and I’ll make another one for April! Hope you all enjoyed this post and hope you enjoy the rest of your spring! Thanks for reading!

xoxo Andrea

5 Beauty Tricks I Live By

Happy Thursday!! Not too long ago I wrote a post called 5 Beauty Tips I Live By. I told you all about great remedies and health tips to keep your skin glowing! This week I wanted to talk more about makeup technique. Here are 5 beauty TRICKS I live by!

Beauty Trick #1: Apply concealer in triangles under your eyes

concealer-shapes

I seriously suffer from dark circles. Always have and probably always will. Something I discovered a few years ago, even before this whole contouring sensation blew up, was to draw triangles underneath of my eyes with concealer. This brightens up the entire face and is really effective in covering darkness underneath the eyes.

Beauty Trick #2: Wet eye shadow brushes

Before applying eye shadow, dampen your eye shadow brushes. A wet eye shadow brush makes the colors appear much more vibrant on your skin.

Beauty Trick #3: Exfoliate lips with a toothbrush

I do this each morning before applying lip colors, and each night before applying vaseline. The bristles of the toothbrush clean away dead skin and make your lips very smooth and ready for lipstick. Just make sure to not scrub too hard!

Beauty Trick #4: Apply two different mascaras

So I’m not the biggest fan of falsies. They irritate me. Also, I don’t feel they’re necessary for daily use. Instead of using falsies, I layer my mascaras. Currently, I use Benefit Roller Lash along with L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Volume Building Mascara!

Beauty Trick #5: Prime face with color corrector

Before applying my foundation, I apply a green primer to cancel out the redness. This creates a smooth, and even base for my foundation. I use Correcting Primer- Redness Reducer in green by PUR. Of course there are many different shades suitable for different skin types.

I hope this post gave you some new ideas and tricks to try! What beauty tricks do you live by?

Self Tan Reviews

During the summer season, I am blessed to be a person with skin that tans very nicely. I don’t burn or flake, instead I develop a dark, healthy glow. Personally, I feel much more confident with my summer tan and mourn the loss of color in the winter. While pale skin is beautiful and I don’t necessarily dislike my fair skin, I prefer a tan. I have tested out different sunless tanners over the years in order to maintain my summer glow in the winter, but of course faux glow can be quite tricky. Many self-tanners turn my fair skin orange or come out far too splotchy. Of course with enough practice and experimenting, I have found the perfect self-tanning routine (that I’d be more than happy to write, let me know if you’re interested) and have found the good and bad self- tanners. Here are reviews of some of the self-tanners I have tried.

Jergens Natural Glow

A very poplar self-tan option is Jergens Natural Glow. I am a fan of this self-tanner, although it does have its issues. Just to clarify, I use the lotion and I have used both the face and body lotion. I think this self-tanner is great for people with fair skin. The lotion is meant to be for daily use and the tan is gradual. If you’re using a mitt and blending properly, it will probably take you about three days until you see results. I think a nice, dark tan is very possible to achieve from this lotion and that is why I am a fan. However, I have a serious problem with splotchiness. My tan looks great for the first two days then it starts to get splotchy. It starts applying unevenly and just straight up flaking off. Then I have to exfoliate completely and start fresh and the cycle begins again. It’s pretty annoying, but still, I do enjoy the color pay off. The splotchiness is especially an issue on my face. The color does not apply evenly on my face at all. Another issue I have with this self-tanner is the smell. Because it’s a daily moisturizer, I feel like I always smell like DHA because I shower, and then immediately have to reapply it! The smell is not at all pleasant.

Clinique Self Sun Body Tinted Lotion

This self-tanner has wonderful reviews and I was extremely excited to try it out. However, it did not at all work for me. I’ve read many reviews about the color of this self-tanner being very subtle, but when I used it, I completely turned orange. I remember going to school after using this self-tanner and receiving a ton of comments asking if I got a spray tan because I looked like a carrot. I was mortified. Along with this, the color streaked. Oh, and the smell is HORRENDOUS! I did not like this self-tanner one bit and am very surprised it’s such a popular choice.

Neutrogena Micro-Mist Airbrush Sunless Tan

Unlike the Clinique Self Sun Body Tinted Lotion, I have read terrible reviews about this spray. Oddly enough, I don’t hate it. I mean, if anything I really didn’t notice much of a color pay off which was disappointing. But for me, that’s better than turning orange. The smell wasn’t bad either. I’ve definitely smelled a lot worse, and I found the fumes to be very subtle.

Tanceuticals CC Self Tanning Body Lotion, Dark

Tanceuticals creates very nice self-tanners. I actually use both the face and body lotion in the darkest shade. I am a fan of this self-tanner because it doesn’t cause breakouts or anything which is very important to me since I have acne prone skin. I use the shade dark, but the color it gives me is definitely not dark which makes me wonder how the light shade works. I am very fair skinned and even with the dark shade, the color pay off is only subtle. The smell of this self-tanner is also quite nice. I actually really like the smell. It doesn’t smell like DHA at all. It actually smells like coconut. I am a huge fan of the smell. My least favorite part about this self-tanner is probably how runny it is. Still, this self-tanner is very high quality and does not streak as bad as others or smell which is extremely important to me. I would recommend this self-tanner

I’m still on the hunt for the perfect self-tanner. As of right now, Tanceuticals is definitely my go-to self-tanner. If you have any self-tan recommendations, please let me know!

5 Beauty Tips I Live By

Happy Saturday!

Today I wanted to write about 5 beauty tips I swear by. These 5 tips are simple and essential and hopefully something all of you are all doing already. Skin care is super important no matter what age you are and it’s important to take good care of your skin and body. Here are 5 important tips!

  1.  I begin every morning by chugging a bottle of water. We all know water is vital to our routine and has loads of benefits on our skin, our health, our energy level, on our body, and pretty much everything. It’s so important to stay hydrated and to drink lots of water because it could have crucial effects on our skin and could even clear up acne. Dehydration can cause dry skin and wrinkles. Staying hydrated will make your skin brighter and your hair shinier. Start each day by chugging a cup of water and make sure to drink 8 cups throughout the day!
  2. I make sure to clean my makeup brushes weekly. Cleaning your makeup brushes is extremely important but something many of us neglect to do. It’s important to clean your brushes of all that bacteria that can clog your pores. I wash my brushes by first, running each brush under water to dampen them. Next, I rub each brush on a bar of ivory soap making sure to get in between the bristles. Then I rinse thoroughly.
  3. I use eye cream twice a day. Now for most, using an eye cream twice a day isn’t necessary. Instead an eye cream used once at night before bed is just enough. I have always suffered from dark circles and puffiness, so I use First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy in the morning before applying my concealer. This eye cream is great because it’s light and a nice tan shade that works almost as a light concealer. The best part about this eye cream is its metal applicator used to blend the eye cream. The coldness of the metal is great for de-puffing  and brightening underneath the eye. At night, I use either Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream, or I’ll dab a little bit of Aquaphor underneath my eyes because I find it very hydrating. This Origins eye cream is intended for morning use, but I personally prefer it at night because I don’t think it sits well under makeup. I’ve been using this eye cream for a few years now and I definitely think it’s time for a change. If you have any eye cream recommendations that help with dark circles, please leave a comment below!
  4. Moisturize- Use a high quality moisturizer and use it on your face each morning and night. Most of us are already in the habit of moisturizing our face, but what about our body? It’s equally important to keep our bodies hydrated and well moisturized so make sure to moisturize your body each day. Currently, I use CeraVe facial moisturizers AM and PM for my face. This moisturizer is great for acne prone skin and was recommended by my dermatologist. I’ve been using it ever since. For my body, I switch up lotions a lot but am currently using Burt’s Bees.
  5. Use a face mask once a week. It’s important to exfoliate and I find the best way to do this is with a mask each week. A mask hydrates your face and rids your skin of all of the dead skin cells. I use Freeman Feeling Beautiful Clay Mask with Avocado & Oatmeal twice a week on my face.

These 5 beauty tips have become a part of my daily life and are very important in my beauty routine. This is how I keep my skin soft and clear and beauty tips I find work wonders for me, and I believe could help you too. Hope you liked this!
