date yourself

Whether you are single or in a relationship, everyone is entitled to their own “me” time every once in awhile. We all work hard, whether it be in our relationship, at work, or in class, so why not treat ourselves? Take a day for yourself and go out on a nice date…with yourself! Spend the time alone indulging in your favorite activities with no one to rush or distract you. You are in total control of this date, so clear your mind and focus on only yourself. In today’s society, we spend too much time depending on the company of others. Spend the day finding pleasure in your own presence. Put on something nice, buy yourself a box of chocolates, and enjoy the day getting to know yourself. Here are some date ideas to take yourself out on.

1. Your favorite restaurant.

Buy yourself a milkshake with ONE straw. Get a greasy, messy cheeseburger and don’t worry how un-classy you might look. Splurge a little on the dessert that’s all for yourself.

2. Take yourself to the movies.

You have the freedom to see any movie that you want. Any chick flick, or rom-com, the choice is yours. You don’t have to hear the opinions of others or worry about someone talking during the movie, so buy a popcorn and a soda for yourself, and enjoy the movie.

3. Go to an art museum.

Have a peaceful evening strolling through an art museum. Appreciate the beauty of what surrounds you. Embrace the solitude.

4. Have a beach day.

The beach is one of the most calming atmospheres. Listen to the ocean waves crash against the shore and take pleasure in the feeling of your toes in the sand. Lie on your beach chair, soak up the sun and breathe in the salty air. Enjoy the beautiful day.

5. Stargaze.

Bring a blanket outside and enjoy the night looking up at the sky. Count the stars.

6. Go out for coffee.

Grab that book you’ve been dying to read and head over to your local caffe. There is absolutely no rush. Order a large coffee and maybe a cookie, and enjoy your book.

7. Go for a walk in the park.

Breathe in the fresh air by taking yourself on a nice stroll through the park with nothing but you and your mind. Explore the world around you. Find comfort in being alone.

This day is all about getting to know you. Go and do whatever it is your heart desires. So go and enjoy the company of yourself, because you sure are amazing.

A Bad Date

Today I decided to tell you guys a quick story about a really awful date I went on a few years ago. So, two summers ago when I was around 16- 17 I met a boy who lives by the beach one day while I was on the boardwalk with my friends. We texted throughout the summer and I saw him a few times more while going to the beach with my friends, but I had never gone to the shore alone and therefore never really had the chance to be alone with him. One week, my family decided to rent a shore house. I was so excited to be able to go to the beach and finally go on a date with this guy. From the jump, I never expected things to be serious with this guy since he lives close to the beach which is about a two hour drive away from me, but I thought he’d be a nice summer fling.

We make plans to go to the boardwalk and I’m ready to go. I’m sitting there waiting for him to pick me up and minutes pass by. Finally, he texts me saying he’s out front and I look, and he’s not there. It turns out he was lost. After around 45 minutes, he finally found me and we headed to the boardwalk.

We walk the boardwalk and talk a little and all is going well. He asks me if I want to go on his favorite roller coaster. I really am not a fan of roller coasters, but I agreed. It wasn’t my favorite thing in the world, but it could’ve been worse.

So the date continues and he asks if I want to go on the ferris wheel. I say sure and he buys the tickets. We hop in line which was obnoxiously long and wait our turn. As soon as we near the front, the ride shuts down. Great. We leave and walk the boardwalk again and just talk for awhile when we notice the ride is back up. We walk back over to the ferris wheel and it closes AGAIN! So we leave.. again. And then once again we notice the ferris wheel is running again. We decide to go and try again since he already bought the tickets anyways. We go and wait in another long line, and finally ride the ferris wheel.

After all of that frustration, we finally got a short ride on the ferris wheel and decide to head out. It’s around 11 and I’m only 16 so my stepdad really wants me home. Then my date asks “do you remember where I parked?” My heart started pounding and I could feel sweat. Of course I didn’t remember where he parked, I didn’t know I was supposed to. And it’s not like he parked in a single parking lot for the beach and could just sound off his car alarm. There are several parking lots down every street and he could literally be parked anywhere. So there’s really nothing we could do so we start looking.

We walk all around the town which I must say is not a safe area. We encounter many drunks and many sketch people. Minutes turn to hours and my stepdad keeps calling. I tell him we can’t find his car, but he doesn’t believe me and starts to freak out on me saying he’s going to come find me and pick me up. But that’s pretty embarrassing and I didn’t wanna leave this boy in this sketch town alone even if I was super annoyed and my feet were blistering. If I knew we’d be walking around for two hours trying to find his car I wouldn’t have worn flip flops.

The boy would ask people for help trying to see if there is a taxi service or something to help us find his car. Everyone he asked was drunk with elaborate responses that were very incoherent. We encountered some police officers and he asked for help, but they weren’t much help either and basically just laughed at us. He finally found a phone number to call to get a ride. He calls and the guy said he can’t just drive us around to help us find a car. So we’re stuck walking.

We walked so much I’m pretty sure we went through every parking lot twice. Finally we find his lost car all alone in some parking lot that I’m almost positive we passed earlier in the night. I get home a little after 1 am and my stepdad is pissed and doesn’t believe my story. All I really wanted to do was lie in bed because my feet and legs were so sore.

Although this date was awful, the boy offered to come visit me all the way in my little old town. I thought that was really nice since it’s such a long drive. He drove down and bought us movie tickets. We had some time to kill before the movie so we got some Chipotle. We go back to the movies and find out the power is out and won’t be back until tomorrow.

The relationship died after this. I wonder why.

That’s my story of some really unfortunate dates with one guy. I guess these were just signs it wasn’t meant to be! Hope you enjoyed this story time and I hope even more you never lose your car!

Creative Ways to Hit on Someone

Looking for a new way to hit on the hottie in your chem class, or that cute girl you always see at the bar? No worries, below are the most creative stories of ways people have been hit on (or have hit on others) and whether or not they were successful.

“Once a guy approached me and said, ‘Did you know one out of every four girls in a grey hoodie wants to go to the movies with me?’ I was wearing a grey hoodie.” -Margaux, 18

Successful: YES!

“One time a kid in my club made a fan page of me.” -Nicole, 18

Successful: NO

“At a raffle for a dance my junior year this kid paid $500 to dance with me.” -Nicole, 18

Successful: YES!

“The funniest pickup line has to be ‘Let me wipe off your seat for you’ guy wipes face” -Yasmine, 18

Successful: NO (and it’s raunchy as hell)

“At a carnival, this boy came up to me and asked me to feel his hoodie. Afterwards he asked, ‘Isn’t it soft? It’s called boyfriend material.'” -Sabrina, 19

Successful: YES!

“On a giving Tuesday, I went up to a guy and said “It’s giving Tuesday so I’m going to give you a compliment; you’re hot as hell.’ In return, he gave me his phone number.” -Nicole, 18

Successful: YES

“I was on the boardwalk with my friends and the guy walking behind me started serenading me! It was the cutest thing.” -ME

Successful: YES

Some tips I hope you have gained from this: cheesy pickup lines CAN be successful, but don’t be too raunchy, or too creepy. Hope this helped!

Hello everyone! How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? I hope it was wonderful! I know mine was! I ate TONS of food. My dinner included mashed potatoes, baked ziti, spinach, corn, and of course turkey! And for dessert I had some pumpkin pie with whipped cream and pumpkin pie ice cream on the side. I’m still full!

We celebrated with my step-dad’s family who I absolutely love. His sisters have a bunch of young kids that keep me company. They’re adorable!!

I wore this beige sweater from Forever 21 paired with green jeans I bought at PacSun for $10!!! My moccasins are from Payless and I accessorized with a long, gold necklace from 5-7-9!

What I’m Thankful For

In honor of Thanksgiving on Thursday, I think it’s about time for me to write the generic “What I’m Thankful For” blog post. So what exactly is it I’m thankful for? I could write the things you know I’m thankful for like my family, friends, pets, etc. Or I can be more specific, and include the shallow things I can’t live without. I think I’ll be more specific.

1. Skinny jeans

I’m thankful for skinny jeans being in and flared jeans being out.

2. Wi-Fi

This kind of goes hand-in-hand with Netflix. Without Wi-Fi, there would be no Netflix. Can you imagine a world with no Netflix? I can’t.

3. Forever 21

IMG_1240Forever 21 is basically the only store I shop at because it is the only store I can afford that provides clothes that are actually in style. Without Forever 21, I honestly have no idea where I’d shop. So thank you Forever 21 for your $1 camisoles and $11 sweaters. I’m truly grateful.

4. ShamelessSeason-3-Promotional-Poster-shameless-us-32713318-800-960

One of my all time favorite shows on television. Shameless never fails to make me smile.

5. Tumblr

By far my favorite form of procrastination (besides sleeping) is scrolling on Tumblr. I can honestly do it for hours. Although wasting so much time on Tumblr may screw me over later on, I’m still thankful for this beautiful form of social networking.

7. Leonardo DiCaprio

My appreciation and love for Leo mustn’t go unheard. This gorgeous and talented man has helped create some of the best movies of all time. No one could portray the role of Jack Dawson quite like he could. He has starred in so many amazing movies like The Departed, Aviator, Wolf of Wall Street, and so many more. These movies wouldn’t be nearly as incredible without him. Don’t worry Leo, you’ll get your Oscar one day.

(not to mention he makes great eye candy)

8. Books

I wanted to name a specific book or author but I really just can’t. There are too many great books and authors to choose from, and I am thankful for the variety.

9. Yoga

037 (4)

Yoga incorporates exercise and meditation. My all time favorite way to get in touch with my inner zen.

10. TeaIMG_1244

I’m enjoying a nice cup of green tea as I write this. I genuinely believe a hot cup of tea and honey is a life saver. I can’t start my day without some!

11. My momIMG_7867

I had to include my mom because I am eternally grateful for her. Without her, I would have absolutely nothing. She has provided me with everything despite the many struggles our family has faced throughout the years. Shoutout to you, mom!

I Hate Cancer

I’m not going to make this post very long, and it probably won’t be very well written either. This is more of just a rant on me being depressed. Over the past few weeks my cat has been losing a ton of weight and has been acting strange. We took him to the vet to find out what was wrong and he got blood work done and so today the vet called to say that it turns out he has cancer. I’m beyond depressed because I’ve had this cat since I was 6 and he’s still young and I honestly didn’t think I had to worry about him dying for another 10 years. But the vet says there is nothing that can be done and that we should just make sure he’s comfortable. Unfortunately, he’s been acting the worst he has today and I’m awfully frightened that tonight could be his last night. I’m still praying for a miracle because I really can’t imagine my life without him. He’s the most beautiful cat in this world and he’s extremely well behaved. I definitely don’t think it’s his time to go and that’s why I’m hoping for a miracle.
